Donald Trump and his wife Melania marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., while making the event about his ongoing war in Iran.
The service at the Pentagon heard the names of the 184 people killed at the location in 2001 when a hijacked plane crashed into the defence headquarters.
Trump attended the commemoration at the Pentagon for the second year in a row, skipping the New York Ground Zero ceremony.
He told attendees: ‘On days like 9/11, we learn what a country is truly made of. We’re learning right now what we’re made of. We’re still sending terrorists where they belong – to hell.
‘And tankers to the bottom of the ocean where they belong, and we are ensuring that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. The economic pressure tightens every day.
‘We control the Strait. We will finish this fight.’
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said at the ceremony in Washington: ‘The struggle against evil continued, and it continues now. It will continue until Judgment Day. Our only answer here on Earth is eternal vigilance.
In New York, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and current Mayor Zohran Mamdani, along with former US presidents, are in attendance.
Trump last went to New York for the anniversary in 2024. Vice President J.D. Vance is in attendance.
Today marks 25 years since the 9/11 attacks in New York and Washington DC shocked the world.
The ramifications of the attack, which brought down the Twin Towers in New York City, claimed the lives of almost 3,000 people – including dozens of children – with more victims being identified to this day.
Millions watched in horror on September 11, 2001, as four airliners were hijacked by terrorists and flown towards major sites in the US.
American Airlines Flight 11 hit the North Tower and Flight 175 hit the South Tower, causing both to collapse.
American Airlines Flight 77 also crashed into the Pentagon in Washington DC, killing all 59 passengers onboard along with 125 people on the ground.
