Sir, – With reference to your front-page budget story, is it not time for Fine Gael Ministers to stop this nonsense about people who get up early being more deserving? (“Budget will benefit those ‘who get up early’, Harris says”, News, September 8th)

Although retired, I generally get up shortly after 7am and don’t merit anything from the Government for that.

However, I often see a hard-working neighbour arriving home about then. I don’t think she gets up until some time in the afternoon to do her evening shift in a hospital.

I’d like to think her interests will be paramount come budget day. – Yours, etc,
