Tributes have been paid to the late Michael McCreary of Littermore, Kilmuckridge and Rosslare, Co Wexford who died recently.

A spokesperson for Kelly’s Hotel in Rosslare said it was with “heavy hearts” that they learned of the passing of Michael McCreary, who was part of the very fabric of the business for 50 years.

“Michael was a much-loved member of the Kelly’s Hotel family for over 49 years, and his passing leaves a great sadness amongst all of us who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him,” a spokesperson said.

“For so many of our guests, Michael will be fondly remembered from Beaches Restaurant, where his cheeky grin and warm personality were such a familiar part of the Kelly’s experience.

“He was a kind and gentle man who genuinely loved being surrounded by people, whether chatting with our guests or sharing a laugh with his colleagues.”

Over almost five decades, Michael was at the heart of one of Ireland’s most successful hospitality brands, welcoming guests from across the world.

“Generations of guests and colleagues came to know him, and he will be remembered with enormous affection by so many.”

The hotel added that their thoughts are with Mr McCreary’s family at this sad time.

One mourner wrote, “I had the pleasure of working alongside Michael in the dining room at Kelly’s Hotel for many years. He was a true professional, a gentleman in every sense, and always had a smile for everyone. Michael was a wonderful colleague who will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of working with him.”

While another described him as a “true gentleman” and that they had many happy memories of Michael in Beaches Restaurant. “We particularly recall his kindness and professional attention.”

Mr McCreary passed away peacefully at University Hospital Waterford after a short illness. The beloved son of the late Peter and Elizabeth and brother of the recently deceased Billy, he will be dearly missed by his brother John, sisters Eilish, Theresa, Mary, Margaret and Claire, his extended family and wide circle of friends.

His funeral took place in St Mary’s Church, Kilmuckridge on Tuesday followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.
