Minister hails Tubbercurry Primary Care Centre as ‘one-stop access point’ for local services
Construction work on the new Primary Care Centre (PCC) in Tubbercurry, is set to commence, marking a significant investment in healthcare infrastructure and services for the local community and surrounding areas.
Boyle Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the development. The design team are led by Rhatigan Architects, Sligo. Enabling works are scheduled to commence this month, with construction of the main building due in Q4 2026.
The new Primary Care Centre will comprise approximately 1,615 square metres and is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete. The total project investment is in excess of €12 million, representing a substantial investment in the future provision of community-based healthcare services in Tubbercurry and the wider region.
Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill said, “I am delighted to see the development of the new Tubbercurry Primary Care Centre moving on to construction. This new facility will accommodate a broad range of healthcare and community services provide for the people of Tubbercurry and the wider Sligo area. It will provide a one-stop access point to many primary and community health care services for individuals as close to their own homes as possible.”
John Fitzmaurice, HSE Integrated Healthcare Area, Sligo, Leitrim, South Donegal, West Cavan Manager said, “The commencement of construction on the new Primary Care Centre in Tubbercurry is an important milestone for the local community. This significant investment will provide a modern, purpose-built facility that will bring a wide range of health and community services together under one roof. It will strengthen the delivery of primary and community care locally and provide an excellent environment for both patients and healthcare professionals.”
The new facility will accommodate a broad range of healthcare and community services, including Public Health and Community Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Community Medical Officers, Orthotics, Dietetics, Social Work and Dental Services, alongside other visiting services.
The centre will also feature a dedicated diagnostic suite, incorporating X-ray, Ultrasound and DEXA scanning facilities, providing enhanced access to diagnostic services for patients locally. In addition, the building will accommodate two GP practices, further strengthening the provision of primary care services in the area. An ambulance base will also form part of the development.

The Primary Care Centre will create a modern hub for integrated healthcare delivery, making a wide range of services more accessible to the people of Tubbercurry and surrounding communities. The inclusion of diagnostic facilities, two GP practices and an ambulance base will further enhance the role of the centre within the local health infrastructure.”
Kevin Gunn, Capital and Estates added, “Accessibility is a key consideration in the design and operation of the Tubbercurry PCC. Its location provides convenient access by public and private transport, with sufficient onsite parking available for visitors. This ease of access can support patient participation and regular attendance, particularly for older people and those with reduced mobility.”
