Cavan County Council has been shortlisted for four top honours at this year’s Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards.
The national awards recognise best practice across local authorities, celebrating innovative projects, public services and initiatives that strengthen communities across Ireland.
Among the quartet of projects in line for recognition include The Created in Cavan Food Network in the ‘Promoting Economic Development’ category, the cross-border ‘Art of Life’ project for honours in the ‘Best Age Friendly’ initiative, ‘Dance Connects’ – another cross-border project shortlisted for ‘Sustaining the Arts’, and the Council’s ‘Oiliúint Gaeilge’ staff training initiative for ‘Best Irish Language and Culture’ initiative.
Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Carmel Brady said the announcement illustrated the level of industry and endeavour local authority staff were continuing to demonstrate on a daily basis.
“To have secured four nominations amid stiff competition nationally is testament to the excellent work that Cavan County Council is undertaking on behalf of the people of Cavan,” said Cllr Brady, before wishing all nominees the best of wishes ahead of November’s awards ceremony in Dublin.
Chief Executive of Cavan County Council, Mr Eoin Doyle followed suit who added how council staff were responsible for delivering almost 1,000 services to the general public on a daily basis.
“While the real reward is seeing the positive impacts this work has on the community, getting shortlisted for these national awards does emphasise the high quality of work that is being delivered within a national context,” he said.
The 2026 Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards takes place on November 26 in the Crowne Plaza, Santry, Dublin.
