A WOMAN has drowned after being swept into raging floodwater and becoming trapped beneath a car during a savage storm in Majorca.
The 67-year-old is believed to have slipped in a flooded street in Felanitx as torrents of rain tore through the town this afternoon.

She was swept away by the surging water before becoming trapped underneath a car.
Locals found the woman without a pulse shortly after the horror unfolded and desperately raised the alarm.
But emergency crews were unable to revive her.
The tragedy struck in the south-east of the holiday island as a ferocious downpour unleashed widespread flooding.

Police launched an investigation this evening as the woman’s identity and nationality remained unknown.
She lived in Felanitx, a small inland town around a 20-minute drive south of Manacor.
One unconfirmed local report, which gave her age as 63, claimed she had been on her way to work when she stumbled into the floodwater.
The storm sparked around 150 emergency incidents across Majorca, with fallen trees and flooding causing chaos.

Most of the incidents were recorded between 2pm and 4pm as the deluge battered the island.

A major road linking Palma with Valldemosa was also shut for several hours after a huge tree crashed onto the tarmac.
Firefighters were forced to clear the obstruction as the storm continued to lash the island.
Majorca Airport was briefly forced to suspend operations over safety fears, triggering flight delays.
Francina Armengol, former president of the Balearic Islands, paid tribute to the woman after news of the death emerged.
She said: “The worst news reaches us today from Felanitx, in the midst of this episode of rain and storms.
“All my affection to the victim’s family and friends during these very painful moments.”
The death comes just weeks after a mother and daughter were killed during storms on Spain’s east coast.
