Pushpendra, 32, was visiting the dam in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh to film the reckless stunt with a group of friends.

Cringeworthy video shows the wannabe daredevil, sporting a white T-shirt and jeans, clambering over the rail and preparing to jump.

Moments before he jumped, one of his friends quipped: “May God rest your soul in peace.”

Pushpendra then launched himself from the roughly 30ft structure, seemingly expecting to land in deeper water.

Doctors expect his other leg will need surgery too.

Pushpendra later admitted that he had performed similar stunts at different places in the past, but had not realised the water was so shallow at the dam.

He said: “I will never perform such a stunt again.”

His cousin Rajiv said: “My brother Pushpendra had gone to the dam with his friends.

“He then jumped into the dam. There was around three and a half feet of water where he fell.

“As a result, both his legs were fractured. The doctors have operated on both his legs. He is currently in stable condition.”

Police said a preliminary inquiry was conducted after the incident and that further investigation and necessary legal proceedings were underway.
