Emmerdale’s Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) had been iffy about getting engaged in the first place, but now it’s the furthest thing from his mind, given that he’s responsible for the deaths of two people.

It took a lot of persuading by Kev Barton (Chris Coghill) to get Vinny to consider popping the question before all of this happened. He was unsure whether he was ready, but Kev didn’t give him much choice.

After a lot of psyching himself up, Vinny went off to get a ring – and disaster struck on his return that’ll change Vinny’s life forever.

As he drove home from the jewellers, Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) video-called him in need of a self-pitying chat. Her distraction saw Vinny lose control of his car and run Jimmy King (Nick Miles) off the road – to his death.

Now Vinny is hiding this terrible secret – even Gabby doesn’t know the truth as he lied to her that he’d hit a deer – and it’s crippling him. He’s already tried to confess to Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) that her husband is dead because of him at least once.

He’d better not try the same with Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).

So, with all that going on, popping the question and preparing for a huge celebration couldn’t be further from his mind. Vinny tells Kev the proposal is on hold, which is not the answer Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) wants to hear.

Lewis is still waiting for the big question, and he considers just confronting Vinny and telling him to get on with it.

Kev warns him off doing that following Vinny’s confession to him, but Lewis is too focused on getting engaged. In a moment of madness, he proposes to Vinny himself.

Vinny is completely blindsided. Never in a million years did he see that coming, and with the guilt of killing Jimmy and Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) eclipsing any other emotion he could feel, he hesitates.

Lewis immediately takes his hesitation as rejection and he leaves, utterly humiliated. Will Vinny confess his crimes to Lewis?

With it being well known that Bradley Johnson is leaving the soap, could he be run out of town for his part in the deaths? Or is prison calling his name?
