Sir, – Caroline O’Doherty warns that if 17 planned new data centres connect to the gas grid, the demand increase will be so significant that during a period of extreme cold there could be a 9 to 18 per cent shortfall in gas supply. (“Data centres offered cut-price gas deal”, Page 1, September 7th).

It is clear, therefore, that the LNG import terminal in Cahiracon, Co Clare that Minister Darragh O’Brien and the Government are trying to build will be used to meet the massive increase in gas demand that would result from these new data centres, despite the severe climate, environmental and public health impacts of LNG. – Yours etc,
