With almost €13.5m in funding available for roads repairs in the county, Councillor Robbie Staples has said there is no reason why works on one of the main access routes into Wexford town should be delayed any longer.
The Wexford Borough councillor has repeatedly called for repairs to be carried out on a road which suffered extensive damage last winter resulting in potholes, cracking, and surface failure which have made it “increasingly unsafe” for motorists.
Having previously been informed by the district engineer that repairs to the Drinagh Road were contingent on additional funding being made available, Cllr Staples said those repairs now had to be “prioritised without delay”.
“I’ve been raising the state of the Drinagh Road for months because it’s simply not good enough for one of the busiest routes into Wexford Town,” Cllr Staples said. “Now that €13.49 million has been allocated, I am eager to ensure that repair works begin as soon as possible. This road cannot be left to deteriorate any further.”
