Here, the Faces of Design class of 2026 share the colors they return to again and again, their best advice for selecting paint, and the expert techniques that make all the difference.

From creating cohesion across walls, trim and cabinetry to using contrast and sheen to emphasize architectural detail, this year’s projects put those lessons into practice with style and skill:

  • In Kansas City, Mallory Robins and Elizabeth Bennett of KOBEL + CO joined Jonatan Correa to build Project Garden Party around Benjamin Moore’s Tapestry Gold 2153-30, New London Burgundy HC-61, Saint Martin Sand 2164-50 and a custom shade of blue, layering saturated color and varied sheens across cabinetry, millwork and walls.

  • Tina Ramchandani and Anthony Burns used Stone Hearth 984 and Decorator’s White OC-149 to bring subtle definition to the designer’s New York apartment, with Ramchandani noting that “color is the most important thing to me.”

  • For a Halifax residence, Natalie Owens and Victoria Armour of Stil James worked with Guillaume Tremblay, pivoting from Swiss Coffee OC-45 to Smokey Taupe 983 in the living room and color-washing the dining room in Blue Gaspe 1435. Owens states that “paint can shift a room from bright and casual to moody, warm and deeply connected to how a family lives there.”

  • In New Jersey, Christina Kim and Bill Alpaugh carried Opulence OC-69 across walls, ceilings, trim, cabinetry and whitewashed pine, enlivened the home’s office with Lush AF-475 and finished the front doors in Narragansett Green HC-157. Kim adds, “as a designer, paint tells you where to go, what a room is for and what the mood should be.”

  • While in Nashville, Jonathan Savage and Kevin Salyer softened a stately residence while drawing out its architectural splendor with Icicle OC-60.
