Culture Night
Baltinglass Golf Club: Set against the idyllic backdrop of Baltinglass Golf Club the very popular “Jazz Token” will play from 9pm – 10pm performing many well known jazz classics while providing interesting background stories to some of the more popular songs. The audience are invited to sing-along, dance and ask questions. From 10pm – 11pm the fabulous Suzanne Toomey will bring her unique style and energy to the stage. Suzanne is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter and a very popular performer with audiences of all ages. Feel free to sing-along, dance or just sit and enjoy the night.
St. Mary’s Church, Church Lane: A music concert with the Baltinglass Sings community choir as the main act with guest performances by the Flowers Of Ukraine choir and solo artist Kendal Moody.
Baltinglass Library: Classic Victorian Evening with Oscar Wilde, at 7pm performed by Richard Lynch. Transport yourself back in time. Share Wilde’s sparkling humour and wit, and his tragic downfall. An art workshop for the Baltinglass Retired Group, during which participants will create their own acrylic painting on canvas. Also, Two creative workshops for children, each lasting 45 minutes. Each participant will take home their own handmade artwork as a special souvenir of Culture Night. Contact the library for more details at 059 648 2300.
Horans Bar: from 8pm to 12.30am–Open Mic Night – Celebrating Local Talent with an evening of live music and poetry, featuring talented artists from Baltinglass and the surrounding area. If there are any other local artists who would like to perform, get in touch with B.ART Baltinglass Art Group on their facebook page and they will find a slot for you.
Fatima Hall: 5.30pm to 7pm–Lights, Drama, Action is taking to the stage for Culture Night 2026 in Fatima Hall Baltinglass. Be sure to pop by and see the talented kids give it their all.
Conglais Crafters
The Conglais Crafters invite new members to join them at The Hub in Baltinglass beside the Men’s Shed, every Tuesday from 11am–1pm for all variety of crafts and a cuppa. Learn a new craft or teach your own craft to others. A warm welcome awaits.
Limelight in Bigstone
Funtimes are not gone with the summer. Enjoy some Autumn craic with friends and neighbours. Dance the night away with Limelight in Bigstone Community Hall (R93 KP89) this coming Saturday, September 12 from 9.30pm until late. There will be a Marquee Bar extension, a door prize and spot prizes throughout the night. A big welcome to everyone.
Book Launch and Lecture
West Wicklow Historical Society kicks off its Autumn 2026 lecture series with a lecture by Oliver Whelan who will be focusing on the research of his new book ‘Landlords and Tenants in County Carlow, 1879-1960’. The Society will also co-host the County Wicklow launch of Oliver’s book in association with Four Courts Press. The lecture will explore the change in landholding in County Carlow from the late 1870s with the commencement of the Land War, through to Gladstone’s land courts of the 1880s, and the Wyndham Act of 1903 when most landlords sold to their tenants.
Oliver is a native of Hacketstown and a retired director of the National Treasury Management Agency. He holds a PhD in Irish history from NUIM Maynooth. The event will take place in the Lalor Centre, Baltinglass (W91 XW57) on Friday, September 18 at 8pm. Admission is €5 for members and Non-members €8.
Active Retirement
The Baltinglass & District Active Retirement have the following activites starting back this week:
Bowling resumed this week, on Tuesdays from 3pm – 4pm in Fatima Hall. Bridge started up again and is on Wednesdays, from 10.30am – 12md in the Parish Centre.
A Talk by Herbalist on the Medicinal Benefits of Herbs will take place on Thursday this week, September 10 in Tearmann Gardens from 10.30am – 12.30pm. A once-off Art Class by Olha will take place in the Baltinglass Library on Friday, September 18 (Culture Night) at 6.15pm. An outing to the Shackleton Museum in Athy is planned for Thursday, September 24. Entry is €14.50. Transport to be confirmed.
At the next meeting on Wednesday, September 30 a representative from Heres Law Ireland will give a talk on the legalities of Wills, Enduring Power of Attorney and Healthcare Directives.
The Bowling Team is planning to enter the Active Retirement Ireland National Bowls Competition in Killarney from November 2– 6 . The venue is the Gleneagle Hotel and is €380 per person sharing. €490 for single accommodation. A deposit of €100 is required when booking, please. The Friday Coffee Mornings for September will be held in Horans every Friday at 11am.
Volunteer Drivers needed
The Irish Cancer Society is seeking volunteer drivers to join their pool of drivers. As a volunteer driver you would be bringing patients undergoing chemotherapy to the hospital and back home for their treatment. Gifting your time means that cancer patients will have comfortable (one on one) transport to attend appointments for their lifesaving treatment. If you can spare 2 days per month, have a valid driving licence, and a safe, reliable vehicle, you are the perfect candidate to make a significant difference. The Irish Cancer Society will provide you with training before you start as a driver for them. Your generosity not only eases the journey for many during a challenging time but also offers comfort and support when it’s needed most. Email Monica or Emily at [email protected] for details.
Art & Design Course
Baltinglass Further Education and Training Centre will facilitate a new Art & Design Course starting in September 2026. If you are interested in drawing and painting why not join this beginner’s course. It will run from September to May 2027 one day a week for 2.5 hours. It is QQI accredited and is free of charge.

Pub Quiz
Stratford-on-Slaney Community Forum will host a Pub Quiz night in The Glen Lounge Pub on Friday, September 11 to raise funds for the free Village Christmas Event for the community and surrounding areas. A table of 4 will be €40. There will be a raffle with great prizes on the night. All are welcome for a night of craic for a good cause.
Credit Union Student Bursary
Altura Credit Union is offering five third-level student bursaries valued at €1,000 each, with a total bursary fund of €5,000. The bursary is open to any second-level student completing post-primary school this year who intends to pursue full-time third-level education, a course or an apprenticeship. Proof of the course or apprenticeship acceptance may be requested from any entrant and will be required from winners. The closing date is Saturday, 10 October 2026.
Slí An Chroí Autumn Retreat
St. Patrick’s Kiltegan will host an Autumn Grace Retreat. The weekend retreat offers an opportunity to look back on the year and on the journey of our lives through guided reflection, prayer, silence, time, nature and shared conversation.
