Askamore coffee day
The 10th anniversary coffee day in Askamore community centre, in memory of Mary Walsh, takes place on Sunday 13th September from 10am to 6pm. Proceeds in aid of The Irish Heart Foundation. Special guest on the day with his ice cream van is The Big Noisy 99. Support a great cause have a coffee chat and nice treats on the day.

Kilrush-Askamore GAA Lotto
There was no winner of the Jackpot on Tuesday 25th August. The winning numbers were 1, 25, 28, 29. Lucky dip winners were: David Carton, Mary Quinn, Billy Nolan, Peter Kavanagh. Seller’s prize went to Elma Buttle.
The next draw will take place on Tuesday 8th September at 10pm in Ferns St. Aidan’s GAA Grounds. The next Jackpot will start at €11,800. Tickets can be purchased from any club member, in Jim Byrne’s, Codd’s and Coleman’s. All members of the public are very welcome to attend our draws.

Variety Show – Get ready for the St Pat’s GAA Ballyoughter Variety Show 2026. Evening show is on Saturday November 7. Afternoon show Sunday November 8. Entries are now open for our up and coming Variety show.
So much fun was had last year, and we want lots more people to get involved again this year. We are looking for singers, musicians, dancers, jokers, story tellers, actors, performers of all types. No experience required of course (we are sure theres is a lot of undiscovered talent) just a willingness to show off the talent within the club and surrounding community.

Club Lotto – Result for august 31. This week’s Jackpot €11,450. No Jackpot winner. Numbers drawn 12, 10, 11, 27. Nobody matched 3 numbers, so €150 was donated to the fundraiser for Gorey Hospital. New Jackpot €11,600.

Clothing Bank
We appeal to the community, please do not leave bags at the clothing bank if the bank is full. Bring it home and come back another day. The bank is emptied regularly.
Re-turn recycling bins
Ballycanew National School need your Re-turn plastic bottles and cans. Our Re-turn recycling bins are located beside our recycle clothes bank. Please remember that only bottles and cans go into the blue Re-turn bins. If the Re-turn bins or the clothes bank are full then please do not leave your full bags at the bins, bring them home and come back another day.
Whist Drive
Whist Drive is played every Friday night 8pm sharp in Ballycanew Parish hall. All welcome.
Dog walkers
If you walking your dog, please clean up after it. It’s an offence if you don’t clean up after your dog.

Big Beach Clean
The Big Beach Clean is a Clean Coasts initiative that takes place in September each year, to mark the end of the Irish bathing season (June to September).
After a historic summer that saw record numbers of visitors flocking to our coast, our beautiful beaches are calling out for some much-needed care and maintenance.
On Saturday 19th September we will meet at Old Bawn Beach at 10am. Bags and gloves etc supplied. Pass the message around, we need your help.
Class of ‘86 reunion
Calling all St. Mary’s N.S. pupils from sixth class of 1986 and all teachers in the school during this time – How do you fancy a 40 year reunion?

Coffee Morning
Venie Kinsella is holding her annual coffee morning on Thursday 17th September from 9am–4pm in Carnew Community Care all proceeds go towards South Wicklow Hospice Homecare.
Photography exhibition
A massive thank you to everyone who joined us in Carnew Community Care last Sunday evening for the opening of our 2nd Photographic Exhibition. We were delighted to have John Somers do the honours of officially opening the event.
The exhibition is titled “A Day in the Life of Carnew Heritage Day” and marks the 20th Anniversary of the vintage club. The exhibition features a fantastic collection from 10 talented local photographers, capturing the magic, community spirit, and memories of Carnew Heritage Day over the past 20 years.
Our 10 photographers are: Anna Maria Keogh, Eamonn Doran, James Byrne, John Boland, John Ó Faoláin, John Stone, Keely Redmond, Lorna Doran McEvoy, Paddy Kinsella, Pat Hamilton.
A huge thank you to the photographers for sharing their incredible work, and to everyone who came out on the night to support the club.
We also acknowledge the support of Wicklow CoCo Community Awards Scheme 2026 and Carnew Community Care for use of the activities hall.
The exhibition will be open for September from Monday to Friday during normal operating hours of the centre.

Heritage Day
Carnew Heritage Day 2026 takes place on Sunday 20th September. The site opposite Carnew Mart will have a large display of vintage cars, tractors, stationary engines and all sorts. A unique attraction for 2026 is a Beet Harvesting display with beet pulling by vintage machinery. Our entertainment section is back with music on the day by Aidan Clerkin and Paddy Treacy. Big Noisy will also be there with his ice cream van.
Carnew Heritage Day is one of the biggest vintage working days in the south east and promises to be a great day out for all the family, with admission only €10 and children free.

Hurling
Congratulations to our junior hurlers who won their semi final last Sunday morning in Aughrim against Bray.
Hard luck to our Intermediates who were beaten in their quarter finals against Bray and well done to our senior hurlers who won their quarter finals against Kiltegan.

COOLGREANY
Vintage Day
Don’t forget the Coolgreany Vintage Day is on this Sunday 13th September, on the lands kindly provided by the Merrigan family.
Among the attractions on the day will be a big display of old vintage machinery including blacksmithing demonstrations, auto jumble sale, family entertainment, music with Alistair Fingleton, dog show.
The event will start on Saturday night with live music in the Top Shop and parade of vintage machine up through the village at 7pm with a country and western to follow. Admission is €10 on the day with all proceeds shared in the local community. please support.
Coolgreany Drama
On 22nd, 23rd and 24th September at Gorey Little Theatre, Makeshift Productions will present the Irish premiere of Welsh playwright Gary Owen’s play, Romeo and Julie. It is a funny, contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s original.
Directed by Sally Stevens, the cast of Lily Henrich Doyle, Craig Bodger, Ronán P Byrne, Denise Moules and Elaine Jordan will present morning matinées at 10am for €10/15 and evening performances at 7.30pm for €20. Bookings are through gr8events.ie The show is suitable for 15+ or under 15’s if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Dress Sale
The May Byrne Community House held a dress sale on Sunday 16th August and had a great day, thank you to everyone who supported us. We still have a lot of beautiful clothes left, winter coats, body warmers, jackets, skirts, blouses and of course a lot of dresses, with sizes ranging from 8 to 22.
So as there is so much left we are running a further last chance sale on Sunday 13th September at the Coolgreany Vintage Day. We hope you will pop along to take a look at our stand on the day. There will be great bargains to be had 2 dresses for €5. Again as always thanking you for your support.
