Trump to make speech at US Ambassador's in Dublin

US President Donald Trump is expected to make a speech at the US Ambassador’s Residence in Dublin this weekend.

It is understood that hundreds of guests will be invited to attend.

Mr Trump already addressed a crowd at Deerfield via a pre-recorded video for 4 July celebrations, where he hinted at an Irish visit.

US Ambassador Edward Walsh is due to welcome Mr Trump to the estate on Saturday morning.

This is the first event of its kind and scale at the residence.

Former US president Ronald Reagan delivered remarks during a luncheon in the ballroom during his 1984 ancestral trip to Ireland.

The US president will also meet President Catherine Connolly at Áras an Uachtaráin during his planned visit.

He is likely to arrive in Dublin early on Saturday before travelling on Marine One helicopter to the Phoenix Park for meetings with President Connolly and Taoiseach Micheál Martin.

Mr Trump will spend Saturday night at his golf resort in Doonbeg for the Irish Open tournament.

The Co Clare golf club will host the 2026 Irish Open from 10-13 September.

The US president’s sons, Eric and Don Jr, will also attend the event in Doonbeg.

The visit has been declared an extraordinary event with garda leave cancelled and members of the force drafted in from outside the Clare division to police Mr Trump’s one-night stay.

Protesters are expected in Doonbeg and Shannon Airport, with demonstrations planned to coincide with his arrival.

The General Manager of Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg Joe Russell said gardaí are prepared for expected protests against the US president this weekend.
