STRICTLY star Joanne Clifton has revealed the gender of her unborn baby as she counts down to welcoming her first child.

The professional dancer, 42, announced last month that she and fiance AJ Jenks are expecting a baby.

Joanne has now revealed that they are having a baby boy.

Joanne told OK!: “We’re so excited. We did feel it might be a boy from the beginning. 

“Then, for some reason, the week before the gender scan we convinced ourselves otherwise. 

“So when the nurse said, ‘You’re having a boy’, we were so shocked that we had to go out for a walk and just let it sink in.”

The TV star said she and AJ had not been actively trying for a baby as they were both working in across the country on separate tours.

Speaking about falling pregnant at 42, Joanne said: “Of course, in your forties, you do wonder if it might not happen.

“But we just thought, ‘let’s go for it. If it doesn’t, we’ll still be happy’.

Joanne said a lot of her close friends are “older mums”, but insisted “the important thing is to keep fit and healthy”.

Her fiancee, actor AJ Jenks, uploaded a witty caption alongside the image and put a series of tongue-in-cheek name suggestions as he wrote: “ErlingbellinghamDebrunyeLennonMcCartneyTaylorHansonHelenMcroryClaudiaWinklemanAlanCarrBuddyHollyPollyShermanPrincessFiona Clifton-Jenks”.

He the revealed their baby’s due date and put: “Cya in December!”

The mum to be, who has been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both knees and sometimes struggles with everyday activities, became engaged to AJ last year.

At the time, she took to Instagram to share her happy news, showing off her stunning ring.

Alongside her pictures, she wrote in the caption: “Got bored … so we’re getting married. Cheers!”

Joanne and AJ went public with their romance in 2020.

She previously confessed that the performer managed to change her mind after she initially decided not to date anyone from her industry.

Speaking to Metro, Joanne said: “Before I met my boyfriend AJ, I said to myself, I’m not going to go out with anyone from the industry.

“But you can’t help what happens”.

Meanwhile, on-screen, Joanne and partner Ore Oduba won the BBC ballroom show in 2016.

It came just two years after she joined the series in 2014.
