Naas General Hospital in Co Kildare are warning of long waiting times for patients attending their emergency department.
The hospital say they are experiencing a “very busy period”, with a significantly higher number of patients presenting to the emergency department and a large number of patients requiring admission to the hospital.
Hospital management are urging those with non-emergency health concerns to consider using other healthcare options where possible, including your local pharmacist , GP, a local injury unit such as the Naas Hospital Injury Unit or a GP out-of-hours service such as KDOC.
The Naas Hospital Injury Unit is located less than five minutes from the hospital and treat broken bones, dislocations, minor burns and many other minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the local out-of-hours GP service is KDOC and they operate an appointment only service for urgent medical needs. The out-of-hours centres are located in Naas and Celbridge. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 17.30 to 8.00am. The service is open 24 hours a day on weekends and bank holidays.
“Demand is high at present, and some patients with non-urgent symptoms may wait longer as our teams work to identify and treat patients based on clinical need,” said a spokesperson for the hospital.
“Anyone requiring urgent or emergency care should attend the hospital or contact emergency services without delay.
“We thank the public for their continued patience and support as we manage this busy period,” they concluded.
