A “gentle and affectionate” pitbull has been put up for adoption after she was ordered to be moved out of her home due to her breed.
Four-year-old Bailey is looking for a new home after her owner was forced to give her up due to strict social housing rules against pitbulls.
Pitbulls are generally prohibited by most councils across the country due to their classification as restricted dogs.
Having been recently discovered by the county council, her owner has been given a few weeks’ notice to rehome her.
Bailey is described as an easy going and cuddly girl who has lived with other dogs before but due to her low energy, would not fit well with more ‘hyper’ dogs.
The shelter added that she has not lived with cats before, so would prefer a cat-free home and is fully house trained as well as travelling well in the car and able to walk well on the lead.
Clare Animal Welfare have reached out to potential new owners for Bailey as they appeal to find her ‘second chance’ following the heartbreaking situation.
Sharing a photo of Bailey they said: “This gentle couch potato is sadly being kicked out of the only home she’s ever known, just because of her breed. We’re determined to find Bailey a loving home where she’ll never have to experience such upheaval again. Please give Bailey a share to help us.
“This cuddly, affectionate, four-year-old Pitbull terrier will soon be coming into our care. Bailey is living in social housing, where Pitbulls aren’t allowed, and the county council have recently found out about her. Now her owner has been given just a few weeks’ notice to rehome her, meaning that Bailey is about to lose the only family she’s ever known.
“While it’s a heartbreaking situation, Bailey is such an easy-going girl that we know she’ll settle into a new home in no time. She’s pretty lazy, and as long as she has a comfy couch and someone to love and cuddle her, she’ll be happy out.
“Bailey has been living with other dogs and she’s fantastic with them, so she can happily live with other dogs. But because she’s a low-energy girl, she probably wouldn’t appreciate living with very hyper dogs who might annoy her! She hasn’t lived with cats before, so we’re looking for a cat-free home. And because Bailey enjoys a peaceful life, we’re hoping for a home with no young children under 12.
“Bailey is fully house-trained, travels well in the car, is very polite on the lead, and is easy-going around other dogs she meets on her daily walks.
