THE thrill-seekers at Red Bull Racing have done it again after putting a Formula One car on TRAIN TRACKS.
Ahead of next weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix at the new Madring – the first time F1 is racing in Madrid for 45 years – Red Bull have given the city an early taste of the world’s biggest motorsport.

Team engineers took Sebastian Vettel‘s championship-winning RB8 car, gave it one almighty makeover, and turned it into a bespoke train.
Partnering with the Canillejas workshop, engineers and mechanics designed and fitted incredible metal wheels weighing 29.8kg – double the weight of standard F1 wheels – in record time to run on the Madrid Metro tracks.
Former F1 driver Patrick Friesacher then got behind the wheel of the car, passing by the station at Estadio Metropolitano and the Sacedal and Chamartín depots in the first-of-its-kind stunt.
Friesacher, who raced for Minardi F1 team in 2005, said: “It was an unbelievable experience.

“I’ve been lucky enough to experience a lot with our Heritage team, but driving an F1 car on railway tracks was surreal.
“It’s very cool to add Metro driver to the resume.”
F1 last raced in Madrid back in 1981 at the 2.06-mile Jarama circuit.
Ferrari‘s Canadian driver Gilles Villeneuve took the chequered flag that day, just over a year before he was killed during the final qualifying session at the Belgian Grand Prix in 1982.

Frenchman Jacques Laffite finished second while Brit John Watson completed the podium in a McLaren.
British F1 icon Nigel Mansell also competed and finished the race down in P6, while 1982 title-winner Keke Rosberg finished 12th and F1 icons Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost both retired from the race.
Red Bull will be hoping to improve on the podium finish they achieved with Max Verstappen at last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.
The four-time world champion is yet to win a race this season, with the season being dominated by Mercedes – and in particular championship leader Kimi Antonelli.
