Sligo Bay RNLI carried out a medical evacuation of a person on Coney Island at 2.45pm on Friday (4 September).
The volunteer crew launched the station’s inshore lifeboat into choppy conditions, at 2.55pm and made their way the short distance to the island.
The call out to launch was made by the Irish Coast Guard.
Upon arrival, the crew proceeded to the location of the casualty and carried out a casualty care assessment. Two additional lifeboat crew members were brought over by the lifeboat to assist with carrying the casualty by stretcher to the island’s pier.
The casualty was transferred on to the lifeboat and brought back to the station at Rosses Point where they were then transferred into the care of a waiting ambulance crew and brought to Sligo University Hospital for further treatment.
Speaking following the call out, Michael Waters, Sligo Bay RNLI Helm, said: ‘Time is of the essence in a medical emergency and we would like to wish the casualty a speedy recovery. Thank you to all our volunteers who responded quickly and carried out their work with great care.’
