A multi-millionaire banker who was arrested by Metropolitan Police hunting the ‘Putney Pusher’ has been released under investigation.
The 44-year-old man was arrested in relation to the notorious incident when a jogger shoved a female pedestrian into the path of a double-decker bus on Putney Bridge in 2017.
The Standard previously reported how the arrest came after police received a breakthrough tip-off and spoke to the suspect’s former partner nine years after the incident took place.
While in custody, the suspect was further arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A and Class B drugs found at his property.
The man was bailed pending further investigations.
Now, it has been revealed that the suspect has been released under investigation as detectives continue to process the evidence, The Sun reports.
This means he is not subject to any bail conditions or required to return to a police station, but will be notified of the investigation’s outcome.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “On Monday, June 15, a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm.
“The arrest relates to an incident on May 5, 2017, where a woman was pushed into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge in Putney.
“Once in police custody, he was also arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and Class B drugs.
“He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.”
The incident in 2017 sparked huge interest and became one of Britain’s most compelling unsolved cases.

The oncoming number 430 bus narrowly missed her head by inches, solely due to the rapid reflexes of the bus driver, Oliver Salbris, who swerved out of the lane.
There are many unanswered questions around the case, including what the motive was behind the push and why the jogger ran back across the bridge in the opposite direction roughly 15 minutes after the assault.
Detectives interviewed 50 men and arrested three suspects, including an American investment banker, who was able to prove that he was in the US at the time.
But no suspect was ever charged in the case and the investigation was closed in 2018 before new information came to light that led to the arrest.
