Dramatic footage shows the moment protesters wade into the sea as rescued migrants arrive in Portsmouth.
Hundreds of protesters held a demonstration at Eastney Marina on Sunday where a boat carrying roughly 140 migrants was arriving.
The migrants had been rescued from a “mega-dinghy” which set sail from the French shore near Cherbourg in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Protesters had gathered in an attempt to stop the migrants from being transported to a processing centre in Kent.
As the RNLI rescue boat pulls into the port, one protester in a boat films himself approaching the vessel.
The Standard
On the shore, a number of protesters are seen entering the sea, wading through the water as they watch the boat dock into Portsmouth.
One is heard asking the cameraman for “a lift” as he paddles through the sea with his phone in hand.
In separate footage, dozens of protesters begin plunging into the water. It is not clear why the protesters entered the water or whether they intended on confronting the migrants directly.
