A MAJOR UK motorway has ground to a halt after a serious collision caused a vehicle to flip in the road – sparking long delays.

The M1 southbound lanes one, three and four have all been closed between J15 and J14 near Northampton.

Emergency services have been scrambled to the chaotic scene and are working to reopen the road.

Drivers are currently facing around 35 minutes of delays along the busy route.

Commuters are being advised to check ahead of travelling to avoid delays.

Pictures from the scene show a large emergency services presence with a car in the middle of the carriageway.

Crews are working to remove the debris and the flipped motor and reopen the road.

National Highways said: “Lanes 1, 3 and 4 are closed on the M1 southbound between J15 and J14 near Northampton due to a collision resulting in an overturned vehicle.

“Emergency services are on scene dealing.

“There are delays of 35 minutes on the approach.”
