Is it possible for Jodie Ramsey’s (Olivia Frances-Brown) sibling rivalry with Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) to get any more messed up? Anything’s possible for Coronation Street’s most twisted sisters…

Unpopular opinion – Shona is an idiot.

Maybe I’m being a little harsh. But why would you let a woman with a clear track record of trying to seduce your husband back under your roof?

All right, maybe Jodie has offered some support by helping to care for Shona and  David’s (Jack P Shepherdpremature baby girl Harper. But is that supposed to erase the fact she hid a gun in their house? Or brutally attacked Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) from behind? Or trolled and bullied Daniel Osborne (Rob Mallard) online? Or any of the other completely unhinged things she’s done?

I hope I never need childcare that badly.

Nonetheless, Shona has given Jodie more than her fair share of second chances. Why, you ask? To answer that question, we need to delve into the Ramsey sister’s long, dark and unnecessarily complicated backstory.

The Ramsey girls grew up in a toxic household under their volatile father Doug (Steve Evets)and their enabling mother. A teen mum at the time, Shona couldn’t take anymore and decided to flee, forced to abandon a young Jodie in the process.

This is something that Jodie never truly got over, hence the whole ‘get revenge on Shona by stealing her family’ plan. After all, she had a particularly rough experience with their dad Doug, who used to lock the poor girl in her room.

The last time we saw Doug, it was earlier this year when Shona learned that her estranged father was being treated on a psychiatric warn for his bipolar disorder.

To hear Jodie tell it,Doug suffered a severe mental breakdown right after Shona walked out on the family years ago, leaving Jodie to care for him alone (nice way to manipulate Shona with guilt there).

However, Jodie is the poster girl for ‘unreliable narrator’, as proven when Doug briefly woke up and panicked, warning Shona not to believe anything that her half-sister was saying. Probably, knowing what we know now, the best advice given on Coronation Street all year.

As soon as Shona was out of the room, Jodie threatened her dad not to go running his mouth and get in the way of her plans. With Doug scared into silence, Jodie thought that she’d shut down this potential problem.

However, Doug comes back to haunt Jodie in upcoming episodes of Coronation Street, when he turns up on the Cobbles to reconnect with Shona. This is not going to go down well with Weatherfield’s resident bunny-boiler.

In the cafe, one of the mums from the baby group mistakes Jodie for Shona. Jodie happily plays along. But when a confused Doug arrives, Jodie is forced to spin a spurious excuse.

Suddenly, Shona arrives, and she’s stunned to come face to face with her dad.

Doug explains he’s back on his meds, he’s got his bipolar under control and he’d like to mend their broken relationship. Will Shona be open to a reconciliation?

Even if he is, Jodie’s quick to swop in with a threat, laying out to Doug in no uncertain terms that he better not rock the boat.

But Doug might not heed that warning, especially when he’s disturbed to catch Jodie casts a longing look at David…
