Bellurgan United Under 13s have their sights set on a league and cup double after booking a semi-final spot in the LSGL Cup with a 4-0 win over Albion Rovers on Saturday.
A first-half brace from Katie Fearon, following Clara O’Neill’s opener, put Bellurgan firmly in control at half-time, before Chloe O’Connor rounded off the scoring after the break.
It was another convincing win for the Peninsula side who are unbeaten this season in both league and cup.
Last month they won the Under 13 Major Division title topping the table by five points from Drogheda Town – and they got to celebrate their league success after this cup victory, which secures them a home semi-final.
Bellurgan captain Una O’Reilly received the league trophy from LSGL Chairperson Andrew Gallagher after the game to the great delight of teammates, coaches and parents alike.
That’s back-to-back league titles for the Flynn Park side, who won the under-12 title last season and who will now be hoping to secure a league and cup double.
It was this Albion Rovers side who denied them a double last season – with a dramatic penalty shootout victory in the final – but after avenging that cup defeat with this win, the red and blacks will have their eyes firmly set on Oriel Park once again this autumn.
