You simply can’t have one without the other.
We first met back in 2024 and our long-distance relationship includes a 26.2-mile slog around the streets of London for the marathon last April.
Now we’ve taken it to the next level with the new Asics Novablast 6.

I banked a set of the new wheels in the understated but gorgeous midnight and energy aqua colourway – aka navy and sky blue – but the ‘foggy teal’, ‘rose dust’ and ‘illuminate yellow’ also look delicious.
And, oh my word, they are outrageously comfy.
I thought the Novablast 4 were a dream but stepping into the Novablast 6 is like running on clouds thanks to their FF Blast Max cushioning.
I’m tempted to use them to sleep on in bed, given I’m fairly confident they have even more support than my current pillow at home.

That huge stack of cushioning also had me feeling 10ft tall when I stepped into them – which even gives a psychological boost when tying up your laces to head out and pound the pavements.

How much is it? £140 RRP, this is what you would expect from any top-quality daily runner, let alone the ever-popular Novablast 6. But they’re reduced to £115 at Sports Direct currently.
Who’s it best for? Anyone and everyone! Honestly, cannot recommend them enough. Whether you want a do-it-all, all-in-one trainer for someone just wanting to get out running or an experienced marathon runner needing something bouncy and supportive for those long runs, these hit the spot perfectly.
What we loved: The whole lot! The cushioning is truly epic, the comfort unparalleled, the brilliant grip and the fact you can do the longer runs, the shorter runs, the slower runs and the faster runs in them. The best of all worlds.
What we didn’t love: Nothing at all, honestly. Now it’s a case of waiting to see how they somehow make the Novablast 7 even better!
Speaking of the laces, on an aside, they are nice and long – none of these short laces and tiny loops nonsense.
It sounds crazy but for the amateur, basic runner like myself, these trainers are perfect for everything.
Gentle long run at a steady pace? Check.
Marathon training and race day? Check.
Easy 5km? Check.
Trying to find an extra burst of pace or doing speed work? Check.
That last bit is a notable element of the Novablasts.
While many trainers are great for regular long runs – such as the wonderful Brooks Ghost 18 I last reviewed – the Novablast 6 provide something else when it comes to digging into the higher gears and upping the pace, in large part thanks to the FF Turbo Squared trampoline pod to amplify the boost.

At one point I had to check I wasn’t actually flying.
The Novablast 6 do take a run of two just to break in and make them feel like your own – but genuinely after a 5km and a 10km, I headed out and did 15km in the late summer rain in them and they felt great (and my socks stayed surprisingly dry!).
And for someone with historic ankle injuries, I felt totally secure from the outset in these.
Theresa May would be proud of how strong and stable one of Asics’ most popular shoes are, thanks to the super grippy ASICSGRIP and AHAR LO outsole rubbers, and are perfect for underpronators and neutral pronators like me – although overpronators may need to find something slightly different.
