MIDDLESBROUGH was left fuming after a chemical blunder at Burnley ruined their away kit.

Boro visited Turf Moor on Wednesday and had to wear their white away kit for the Championship clash.

The club’s kitmen would have been prepared for the odd grass stain but were not ready for what happened to the strip.

At full-time of the 1-1 draw, the once pristine white kit was covered in green stains.

The apparent change of colour to the kit was down to a chemical put on the pitch by the Clarets.

The Daily Mail have reported that the chemical was put down to treat a nematode or roundworm problem.

Drastic actions have been taken to clean the kits and return them to their original white.

An industrial stain remover was used after Boro had returned home, but even that failed to do the trick.

It is claimed that Boro officials have been left fuming and are even thought to be considering a complaint to the EFL.

The club would be seeking compensation from the Lancashire-based outfit.

Boro player’s boots and the goalkeeper’s gloves were even affected by the staining.

An insider said: “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

To make matters worse for Burnley they next welcome Derby County to Turf Moor.

The Rams will likely wear their traditional home kit of a white shirt and black shorts.
