WETHERSPOONS has just opened a brand-new pub at the posh university where Prince William met his future wife Kate.

Students, lecturers and locals will be able to visit the highly-awaited Spoons from today, with the pub staying open until 3am on some days.

The University of St Andrew’s has unveiled its new Wetherspoons pub to the public.

This comes as tens of thousands of students return to the Scottish campus for the beginning of the new academic year.

Named “The Red Gown” after the university’s historic uniform, the pub centres around a framed red gown mounted on the wall.

Pictures and murals on the walls show students wearing the iconic gowns, explaining the history of the garments.

The new pub is located in the revamped Student’s Association building on the university’s sprawling campus, with Student’s Association staff still running the venue.

It will open in time for breakfast at 8am, staying open until 3am on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and until 1am on every other day.

It comes as the no-frills boozer is preparing the open a number of new haunts in the coming weeks.

September 8 will see the arrival of a Wetherspoons branch in Southampton called The Heath Hotel, and locals can find the new discount pub on Beaulieu Road.

Meanwhile, the Belle Vue, in Manchester Airport will open on September 15 and the The Cranborne Hundred in Ferndown will launch on Tuseday September 29.

On the same day, The Fletton Brick, Bedford will open to customers.
