A man was stabbed this afternoon [SAT] on O’Connell Street in Dublin city centre, in the vicinity of the Luas station.

Shocked commuters looked on as the man suffered injuries in the knife attack which occurred beside the platform of the busy Luas station.

Gardai confirmed when contacted that a man had been injured and subsequently hospitalised as a result of the attack and that another man had been arrested.

A spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of an alleged assault on O’Connell Street Lower, Dublin 1 today Saturday 5th September 2026 at approximately 4:30pm.

“An adult male has been conveyed to hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life threatening at the time. Gardaí arrested a male (aged in his 40s) who is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in a Garda Station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region. Investigations are ongoing.”
