THE top bars in Europe have been named – and 12 British boozers have made it onto the list.
The European Bar Guide has ranked the top 100 bars across the continent based on their character, atmosphere, value for money and food and drinks.

England saw 10 bars make the list, while two Scottish boozers were also named.
Britain’s top rated bar was the Holly Bush Inn in Makeney, Derbyshire, which was ranked the 17th best bar in Europe.
The 17th century village pub was commended for its cosy fire-lit spaces, traditional country grub and its excellent ales.
The Trumpet – a unique jazz venue in Bilston – came in at number 25.

It has live jazz performances almost everyday, as well as tapas nights – but you’ll need to bring cash as they don’t accept card.
A throwback boozer in Glasgow, the Laurieston, was named as the UK’s third best pub, and 29th in Europe.
Judges said its “harsh 1960s flat roof exterior and the ‘murder pub’ connotations those have earned over the decades makes you double take in its bracing hideousness.”
But they praised the inside as “warm, cosy, social and friendly”, and added that “every spot in the pub looks worth sitting in”.

Another bar that made the list, at number 32, was the The Birch Hall Inn in North Yorkshire, which runs as a traditional sweet shop as well as a pub.
The Sair Inn in Huddersfield was ranked at number 35, while trendy London destination Gordon’s Wine Bar, which regularly has queues out the door, was also listed.
The Blue Bell in York, one of the smallest pubs in the country, was listed at number 48.
“Backstreet boozer” The Big 6 in Halifax came in at number 54.
This traditional neighbourhood pub blends in with a row of terraced houses, and can be accessed through someone’s back yard.
At number 55 was the Victoria Inn in Durham, which was commended for its “North Eastern hospitality, preserved features in its Grade-II listed building, and its cosy social space.
