A £1 COIN has sold for significantly more than its typical worth due to a rare error.
The coin sold for £122.08 in August and will likely have many Brits checking their own pockets for faulty presses on their own change.
At a quick glance, it may look perfectly normal but the small error made it unique and worth more money to collectors.
The top part of King Charles’ head has been chopped off in the faulty minting of the 2025 coin , ultimately increasing its value.
On the coin, the top of his head strays into the outer gold ring of the coin, creating the illusion it has been cut.
This is an example of a mis-struck coin, meaning it was incorrectly struck during the minting process, giving it a wonky appearance.

In perfectly minted coins, the King’s head should appear in the silver-coloured inner disk of the coin.
Bidding for the item began £5 before reaching £122 and the listing read: “2025 King Charles £1 Coin minting errors. Oval centre, head in outer ring.”
Coins featuring the King rather than the Queen began circulating in 2024, 2 years following the monarch’s death.
Since then, many people have been realising the defects of their own coins and sold them off for more than their usual worth.

Earlier this year, a similar defect saw someone sell a wonky 2025 £1 coin for a respectable £56.04 on eBay.
And some go for even more as a rare 50p coin with King Charles on the front is currently listed on eBay for £5,000.
