Irish Rail is set to announce three new services for a Laois train station, a TD has revealed.
In a statement to the Irish Independent, Sean Fleming TD has confirmed that there will be three new trains serving Portlaoise train station when Iarnród Éireann introduces it’s new timetable.
The 6:00am train leaving Dublin’s Heuston Station will now stop at Portlaoise at 6:42am.
The train from Cork Kent to Dublin Heuston will now stop at 10:25am.
Another Cork to Dublin train will stop in Portlaoise at 5:50pm.
“These three new train services between Portlaoise and Dublin are very welcome,” Deputy Fleming stated.
“However, I am not satisfied that a late-night train service after 11pm leaving Dublin for Portlaoise has not been approved at this stage,” he said.
“I will continue to fight for this service as it is vitally important for people who use the train station in Portlaoise.
“While there is some movement in relation to improving this service in Portlaoise this late-night train service leaving Dublin is the most critical improvement we need at this point in time,” the Fianna Fáil Deputy continued.
“I want to ensure people that I have been in contact with the National Transport Authority and Iarnród Éireann on this matter and I will continue my work to achieve this in due course,” he finished.
