Nina Dobrev appeared to be given the hurry-up on the Venice Film Festival red carpet in an awkward interaction that has now gone viral.
The Vampire Diaries star, 37, was posing for photographers at the prestigious event when a man in a black suit, who appeared to be security, approached her and indicated it was time for her to move along.
Footage circulating on social media shows Dobrev standing in front of the cameras when the man steps into view, taps his watch, and gestures away from the photography area.
The actress initially appears confused by the interruption before turning back towards the cameras and managing another playful pose.
Moments later, a second official approaches and appears to direct her away from the spot, at which point Dobrev steps aside with a frown on her face.
She then continues along the carpet, waving towards photographers positioned further down.
The brief exchange quickly attracted attention online, where viewers questioned what had happened.
‘Why the f**k did they send Nina Dobrev away like that from the Venice red carpet?’ one X user wrote.
Another joked: ‘If I were Nina Dobrev getting kicked out of the Venice Film Festival red carpet yesterday, I would’ve evaporated from sheer embarrassment.’
‘I would simply cease to exist from the embarrassment 😭,’ someone else added.
Another viewer criticised the way the interaction had been handled, writing: ‘Every year there are videos of security guards embarrassing some artist.’
Someone else just wrote: ‘Omg humiliating!’
Despite descriptions of Dobrev being ‘kicked out’ spreading online, the short viral clip does not show her being removed from the festival itself.
Other footage from the event shows the actress spending time posing for photographers elsewhere on the carpet before making her way towards the premiere.
Dobrev had arrived wearing an archival Giorgio Armani Privé gown dating back to 2012.
The strapless dress featured a black sequinned column design, contrasted with moss-green chiffon panels falling from the hips into a long train.
Her outfit subsequently attracted attention of its own, with Vogue including Dobrev among its notable looks from this year’s Venice Film Festival.
The actress is best known for playing Elena Gilbert – as well as her doppelgänger Katherine Pierce – in supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries.
She starred in the hit series from its launch in 2009 until departing as a regular cast member in 2015, later returning for the series finale in 2017.
Dobrev has since appeared in films including The Final Girls, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Love Hard and The Out-Laws.
Her appearance in Venice comes as stars from across the film industry descend on the Italian city for the annual festival, with premieres and red-carpet events taking place throughout its run.
