British rock band Squeeze has cancelled their show after a worker was crushed to death beneath their tour bus.
The worker was killed in the car park at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Virginia while working on the bus ahead of the band’s scheduled performance in the US.
Police said the man was underneath the tour bus when a supporting apparatus failed, causing the vehicle to collapse on top of him.
He has not yet been publicly identified.
In a statement, the band said: ‘Squeeze are deeply saddened and shocked by an incident that occurred at the venue earlier today, which resulted in the loss of a life.
‘After discussions with the venue and the relevant authorities, the decision was made to cancel this evening’s performance.
‘We will work with the promoter and venue regarding the possibility of rescheduling the show and will communicate further information to ticket holders as soon as it is available.
‘Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic event.’
Wolf Trap also confirmed the cancellation by saying: ‘There was an accident involving a member of the community at Wolf Trap National Park today, tragically resulting in a loss of life.
‘Out of respect, tonight’s show has been canceled.’
Squeeze are currently touring the US and are scheduled to perform next at the Rose Music Center in Huber Heights, Ohio, followed by a show in Highland Park, Illinois, on Sunday.
The group, formed in London in the 1970s, are best known for their songs such as Cool for Cats and Up the Junction.
Their latest album, Trixies, was released in March.
