A MULTI-MILLION pound motorway junction is finally set to open in just 10 days’ time after two years of construction.

The works have caused delays and traffic along the busy commuter route since works began in 2024.

Junction 10 on the M27 will finally open to motorists on September 14, after a staggering £100million was spent on the works.

For more than two years, construction had been underway on the junction between Southampton and Portsmouth to improve access to the new Welborne Garden Village being built in the Hampshire countryside.

However, works have proved controversial among residents and motorists as a result of the delays, disruption and congestion arising from the construction.

Now expected to open in planned phases to around 30,000 vehicles a day, Hampshire council said that an “accelerated delivery programme” has opened the road months ahead of the set date.

The re-opening of the junction is also being hailed as a “milestone moment for Welborne Garden Village“, despite lane restrictions and speed limits continuing to remain in place.

Councillor Steve Forster, Hampshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “We are delighted to be able to confirm the phased opening of the M27 Junction 10 improvement scheme.

“The new junction and link roads will improve journeys to and from the motorway network in the short term and support the growth of Welborne Garden Village in the years ahead.

“While the scheme will be operational ahead of schedule, essential safety testing and final works will continue for several months.”

During the festive period last year, a large section of the M27 was shut for 11 days so works could be carried out.

This caused lengthy delays, congested diversions and general Christmas chaos for the 120,000 motorists who use the route every day.
