The early days of meteorological autumn have brought a change in the weather, with “wet and breezy” conditions forecast by Met Éireann.
This morning will bring a mix of showers and sunshine, but things will turn cloudy from the afternoon as rain spreads from the west.
That rain will turn “heavy and persistent” during the day, particularly in Munster and south Leinster. It will be a mild and humid day, with temperatures ranging from 17 to 22C.
Tonight, rain will continue over the south of the country before clearing up by Friday morning. Lowest temperatures will range from 11 to 14C.
Friday is expected to be a “bright and breezy” day, with showers mostly affecting the north of the country. Some areas further south could stay dry for the day.
There will be a drop in temperatures compared to recent days, with highs between 15 and 18C.
It will be dry and clear for most on Friday night with showers only affecting coastal areas along the west and northwest, with lows of 9 to 12C.
Moving into the weekend, Saturday will see a mostly dry start before conditions turn wet and breezy, with rain spreading from the southwest. Though there is still some uncertainty, Met Éireann said indications are for the west and north to get the heaviest of the rain.
Highest temperatures on Saturday will range from 16 to 19C.
It will again be wet and breezy on Sunday with rain turning widespread in the afternoon, with highest temperatures of 18 to 22C.
Showers are expected to remain on both Monday and Tuesday, with no sign of an improvement as we move into the middle of next week.
Met Éireann said conditions “are expected to remain unsettled with unseasonably wet and breezy weather at times”.
Temperatures are also expected to drop further and it will start to feel “noticeably cooler”, as the mercury falls to the low to mid teens.
