A CAR tax conviction against the Mayor of London for failing to pay unpaid fees on a 24-year-old Nissan Micra has been formally withdrawn.
Sadiq Khan was facing a £340 court bill after a magistrate found him guilty of keeping an unlicensed vehicle.
In a private hearing, Lord Khan was convicted in his absence and ordered to pay a £220 fine plus £85 in costs and ordered to settle the £35.84 bill for unpaid tax on a Nissan Micra.
But the tax conviction has now been withdrawn following a request by the DVLA at Hereford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
City Hall officials had claimed that the motor does not belong to either the Mayor or Transport for London.
Letters addressed to the mayor from the DVLA were mistakenly sent to a Gordon Ramsay restaurant instead of the nearby TfL offices.
It comes after people threatened to register a car in his name when he expanded the controversial ULEZ zones across London.
Lord Khan famously faced backlash and protests over the expansion of ULEZ, with City Hall accused of waging a war on drivers.
