A MAN and a woman, both 65, have been charged in connection with an investigation into the death of a 12-year-old boy who was struck by a car.

Police were called to Ashwells Road in Pilgrims Hatch, Essex, at 5.40pm on June 7 to reports of a vehicle colliding with a child.

Bobby Bloomfield sustained serious injuries and died in hospital.

A 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and 44-year-old William Lunnon, of Ashwells Road, Pilgrims Hatch, are charged with Bobby’s murder.

Essex Police said they are next due to appear at Basildon Crown Court on October 6.

The force said that two more people have now also been charged in connection with the investigation.

William Lunnon, 65, of Ashwells Road, is charged with perverting the course of justice and Ruth Lunnon, 65, of Ashwells Road, is charged with assisting an offender (murder), police said.

The force said both defendants appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and were bailed to attend Basildon Crown Court on October 1.

In a statement released through Essex Police, Bobby’s family said: “Losing a child is every parent’s nightmare.

“We are living that nightmare and no words can ever explain how we are feeling.

Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood said: “This remains a complex investigation, and we have made significant progress, including bringing charges and making further arrests.

“Our focus remains on establishing the full circumstances and supporting Bobby’s family, who have suffered an unimaginable loss.

“I continue to urge anyone with information to come forward.

“Even the smallest detail could help us build a clear and accurate picture of events.
