The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Emmerdale dated September 3. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube.
Emmerdale has confirmed who Jimmy King (Nick Miles) swerved his car for prior to his death – and it wasn’t Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham).
Last week, Jimmy revealed to Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) that he had planned a surprise for her. He hopped into his car and made his way up to Home Farm, with Nicola instructed to meet him at their special place when he had got everything ready.
The next time we saw Jimmy, he had crashed his car into Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) and Dawn Taylor’s (Olivia Bromley) wedding marquee. Jimmy died shortly after the collision as his injuries were too severe.
DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) arrived to begin her investigation, and quickly found another set of tyre tracks on the road by the field.

But who’s car did they belong to? At first, audience members thought they were from Gabby’s car, due to the fact she was near the scene of the incident as Ramsden and her team got to work. Today’s episode of the ITV soap, however, has confirmed the actual resident who triggered Jimmy and Dawn’s deaths.
With her paranoia eating her up, Gabby headed to see Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson). As they started speaking, it became apparent that Gabby was on the phone to Vinny around the same time as the crash.
A flashback revealed that Gabby had rang Vinny for some advice. Having just discovered that Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) dumped her to try and get back with Dawn, a rejected Gabby ranted to Vinny about how she’ll never find happiness with a man.
Back in the present day, Gabby asked Vinny if he was the person Jimmy swerved prior to the crash. He said no – but that wasn’t true.
Another flashback confirmed that Gabby’s theory was absolutely correct. Vinny was driving while video calling Gabby and, due to how distracted he was, he failed to spot Jimmy’s car until it was too late. The incident happened, but Vinny’s phone was turned up the other way, which meant Gabby only heard the commotion.
Vinny grabbed his device and claimed that a deer was in his way. This massive mistake is the reason a number of lives have fallen apart, and Vinny cannot bring himself to tell anyone the truth.
But just how long can he keep this a secret for?
