Gardaí have launched an investigation into an alleged assault near a residential area of Arklow that is believed to have taken place on Sunday.
In a statement, a Garda spokesman confirmed they are investigating a report of a “serious assault” in Arklow, Co Wicklow, on Sunday, which occurred after 12.30pm.
It is understood that the case has been handed over to detectives from the Divisional Protective Services Unit (DPSU), attached to Wicklow Town Garda Station.
A DPSU is a specialist An Garda Síochána team operating in every Garda division across Ireland to support vulnerable victims of crime.
This can include sexual assault, rape, domestic abuse, coercive control, child sexual abuse, online child exploitation, human trafficking, stalking and harassment.
The area around Hawthorn Drive in Arklow was cordoned off by gardaí on Sunday morning, August 30, with forensic experts also present at the scene.
