Drogheda is set to be transformed into one giant interactive escape room later this month as the Gems of Drogheda Quest returns to the town.

Organised by Drogheda City Status, the treasure hunt will take place on September 18 and 19, challenging teams to solve riddles, uncover clues and discover local businesses along the way.

Teams of between three and six people will make their way around Drogheda, tackling a combination of physical and virtual challenges in a race to reach the final checkpoint.

Participants will be required to visit selected businesses, speak to staff and search for hidden markers, while other clues will direct competitors online to local business websites and social media pages.

Organisers say the event is designed to encourage people to explore Drogheda in a different way while also showcasing shops and businesses throughout the town.

The first teams to complete all of the challenges will be in line for prizes donated by participating businesses, with the prize pool already valued at more than €2,000 and continuing to grow.

There will be separate categories for teenagers aged 13 to 17 and adults aged 18 and over.

One team captain registers on behalf of the group, with the names of the remaining team members to be added ahead of the event.

Registration costs €20 per team, with teams required to have a minimum of three and a maximum of six participants.

Organisers describe the Gems of Drogheda Quest as an opportunity to “unlock Drogheda’s hidden gems — one clue at a time”, combining a traditional treasure hunt with elements of an escape room and digital challenge.
