Cork County Council has granted planning permission for 229 homes in a large-scale residential development in the booming commuter town of Carrigaline.
The scheme on a 7.9-hectare site at Janeville, Shannonpark and Carrigaline Middle townlands will consist of 194 houses and 35 apartments, including 149 3-bedroom semi-detached houses or townhouses.
Six 4-bedroom semi-detached houses, 35 2-bedroom semi-detached or townhouses and four 1-bedroom townhouses will also be built as part of the development by Astra Construction Services Limited.
The apartments will consist of 34 1-bedroom units and one 3-bedroom unit. Thirty-two of the apartments will be in six two-storey apartment buildings and three will be contained within a renovated existing building.
Astra Construction has been building out the Janeville residential development in the northern end of the town since 2016 with around 700 homes already built there. The latest scheme represents the final phase of the development.
The population of Carrigaline has risen sharply in the past decade. The 2022 Census recorded a population of 18,239 people in the town around 12km from Cork city, representing a growth of almost 16pc since 2016.
