Heavy rain is in stock for the first days of September, with a wet and breezy week expected, Met Éireann has said.
After an unsettled start of meteorological Autumn on Tuesday, the low pressure will dominate conditions this week, often bringing rain or showers.
Met Éireann meteorologist Rebecca Cantwell said there will be some drier breaks in the mix too.
It will be dull, damp and humid on Wednesday, with heavy overnight rain moving off into the Irish Sea.
“While the rain will ease, patchy mist and drizzle will follow at times through the day, most frequent across north-western counties and along south and west coasts,” Ms Cantwell told the daily weather podcast.
“However, warm, sunny spells may also break through across parts of the Midlands, east and southeast, and it’ll be fairly mild and humid in a moderate south-west breeze with highs of 17 to 22 or 23C,” she added.
Thursday will see a dry start for many, with just a few showers about and some sunny spells.
But clouds will build from the west in the morning and afternoon, with rain following to most areas through the afternoon and evening.
The rain will be heavy and persistent, with temperatures between 16 in the northwest to 21C in the southeast.
On Friday, it will be breezy with a mix of some sunny spells and scattered showers.
The rain will mainly affect the northern half of the country, especially Ulster, with parts of the south staying dry for the day.
It will be cooler than previous days, with temperatures between 15 in the northwest to 18C in the southeast.
This week will turn wet and breezy at times, as unsettled conditions continue for the remainder of the week and into the weekend, Met Éireann has said.
