The Hawkins family have already made quite the impact in EastEnders, but their next attempt at making friends in the Walford community is set go awry.

The estranged family of Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) arrived on the Square, with her eldest sister, Gemma Hawkins (Patricia Potter), having stuffed the abusive boyfriend of her daughter into her boot.

After a brief, flying visit, they soon returned en masse, pleading with Nicola for a place to crash.

She agreed, on the proviso that her mum, Rose (Marian McLoughlin), stay well away, though when she rocked up alongside Gemma’s husband, Ned (Jamie Bamber), Nicola saw red and booted the entire family out.

As Gemma and Ned found lodgings with Kat and Alfie Moon (Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie), Nicola’s other sister Jodie (Anna Constable) and Gemma’s son, Ryder (Felix Uff), crashed with Harry (Elijah Holloway), while Rose checked herself in to the Peacock Palace.

Despite their best intentions, with said intentions being locking Nicola and Rose together in a van, it became painfully clear that their relationship wouldn’t be fixed in a hurry – if at all, with so much pain and resentment lingering between the two following the death of Nicola’s dad.

Next week sees the clan continue to cause chaos amid the much-hyped wedding of Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) and Howie Danes (Delroy Atkinson).

With Kim’s beloved sister, Denise (Diane Parish) still in hospital battling her cancer, she’s heartbroken to not have her there at the ceremony.

Deeply upset at her absence, Howie decides that a change of scenery is required.

The couple head to get married in Denise’s hospital room, the moment lifted even further by the news that a potential stem cell match has been found for Denise.

Heading back to Walford, though, Kim and Howie are unimpressed when they reach the community centre and find Ryder and Jodie having a whale of a time, helping themselves to the liquid refreshments.

Meanwhile, Ned and Gemma try to acclimatise themselves with their new surroundings and decide that if they’re going to settle in Walford, they’ll need to make friends.

Their gaze falls on Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), and they decide to start with them.

Takes all sorts, I suppose.

Unfortunately for them, though, Kim is still pretty narked by Ryder and Jodie and their light fingers, and when she spots the attempted bonding, she storms over.

Ned and Gemma are both left red faced when Kim reads them the riot act, and it seems that Kim may have cost them some potential buddies.

Although, saying that, starting your social circle by trying to bond with Phil Mitchell probably isn’t the wisest idea, is it?

Looks like it’s back to square one for the Hawkins duo!
