Commuters between Mayo and Galway will soon have more options after Citylink added two additional stops and revised departure times on the Ballina to Galway service.
Citylink has announced the addition of two new stops in Breaffy and Straide.
The village of Breaffy lies nearly 4km southeast of Castlebar and will begin its service stops on Monday, September 7, while the Straide stop on the N58, will join the route on Monday, December 7.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to improving regional connectivity, these new stops will provide residents, students, commuters and visitors with direct access to Citylink’s extensive network,” Citylink said.
Citylink also updated its departure timetable “based on customer feedback.” The 5.30pm departure from Ballina to Galway will now depart at 6.00pm, and the 7.30pm service will now depart at 8.00pm.
Galway East TD Sean Canney welcomed the additional stops as it further connects residents to Ballina, Claremorris, Tuam and Galway City.
“Improving public transport connectivity between our towns, villages and regional centres is hugely important, particularly for people travelling for work, education, healthcare and other essential journeys,” Deputy Canney said.
“The addition of Breaffy and Straide to the Ballina-Galway service will give people in these communities another public transport option and provide direct access to a number of key towns and Galway City.”
Bus Éireann announced in late March that it was pulling its Expressway service 24 due to “continuous significant losses.”
In May 2026, Citylink took over Bus Éireann’s Expressway route 52 from Ballina to Galway.
