Tributes have poured in across Gorey, Co Wexford following the death of a woman heavily involved in well-known family run business.

Anne Funge (née Kelly) of Hollyfort Road, Gorey and formerly of Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent’s Hospital on Friday, August 28 surrounded by her loving family.

Loving mother to Kieran, Colm, Fergal and Eilish, Anne was also a beloved sister to Mary, Katherine, Tim, Terence and the late Bridget and Shem.

Anne was a beloved wife to the late Joe Funge, who sadly passed away just over eight months ago in December 2025.

Anne has been remembered fondly as a kind and generous lady in the community, who was always a pleasure to chat with. She has also been remembered for her involvement with the running of the longtime family business Funge’s of Gorey, which specialised in men’s and ladies wear.

The Funge family took to social media to announce the passing of Anne. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our mother, Anne Funge,” the family said.

As a mark of respect, the shop was closed on Monday, August 31. “Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.”

A number of tributes have poured out across the community, including Gorey Rangers FC who offered their condolences to the Funge family at this difficult time.

“The club would like to offer our sincere condolences to the Funge family on the passing of Anne Funge, who was a great supporter of ours over the years,” a club representative said.

Taking to social media and RIP.ie, loved ones shared fond memories of Anne and her contributions to Gorey town.

One mourner wrote: “I’ve great memories of Ann over the years and especially when we were kids playing in and around Hollyfort Rd. A wonderful lady, and may it be a comfort to you that she has been reunited again with Joe.”

Another wrote: “Anne was a kind, friendly person who took an interest in everyone and loved to stop for a chat.”

Another tribute read: “She was an absolute lady who always had a kind word to say. She will be dearly missed by you all.”

Funeral mass for Anne Funge took place at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 31 at St. Michael’s Church in Gorey.

Anne will be dearly missed by her children, Kieran, Colm, Fergal and Eilish, siblings Mary, Katherine, Tim, Terence, her 11 grandchildren, extended family, neighbours, friends and the wider community.
