The body of a man in his 50s has been recovered from the sea in west Cork, following a search this morning.
It is understood the man, who was from the area, went pollock fishing in a boat from Castletownbere last night.
The alarm was raised when debris was spotted close to Blackball Head this morning.
The boat is understood to have sunk rapidly, as no distress signal was deteted.
Castletownbere RNLI lifeboat was tasked by the Coast Guard Marine Rescue Co-Ordination Centre in Valentia at 7.20am, and the man’s body was recovered and returned to the pier in Castletownbere just over an hour later.
The man’s body was removed to Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place.
The coroner from west Cork has been notified and an inquest into the man’s death will take place later.
