As the transfer deadline approached, it became clear that the Premier League champions were willing to let the youngster go temporarily.

In January, Nwaneri joined Marseille for the rest of the season.
He played for 322 minutes across nine appearances for the Ligue 1 side, finding the back of the net twice before returning to his parent club.
Nwaneri was left out of the squad for Arsenal’s 3-0 win in the Community Shield over Manchester City.

Nwaneri was the youngest player to play in a Premier League game when he made his debut aged 15 years, five months and 28 days against Brentford in September 2022.
Lars Ricken, managing director of sports for Dortmund, said: “By signing Ethan on loan, we’ve succeeded in bringing in a very talented and technically gifted midfielder.
“Given Giannis Konstantelias’s extended absence, it was important for us to be able to strengthen our roster at short notice.
“For us, signing Ethan was the best possible solution from a sporting perspective. We’re pleased that we were able to finalize this deal just before the transfer window closed.”
