Finally, Big Brother is back for its longest series to date since moving over to ITV, and I’ve had a snoop around the house, uncovering what could be a game-changing clue.

On Sunday night, hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best will be welcoming another batch of strangers into the iconic abode where they’ll be confined for eight weeks, should they make it all the way to the final.

Last year’s Big Brother was won by Richard Storry. The 60-year-old songwriter and author was one of the most unconventional Big Brother winners in recent memory, largely ignored by his housemates but immensely popular with the British public, who adored his gentle soul and awarded him the £100,000 prize.

However, this year ITV is switching things up with the promise of ‘a new house every week’.

In the ITV trailer, Big Brother says: ‘Big Brother is back. But if you think you know the game…think again. A new house every week. Fresh chaos daily. Everything can change in the blink of an eye.’

Fans immediately jumped to conclusions, predicting housemates will be transported to a new location everyweek as if television isn’t on its knees with huge budget cuts being announced almost monthly.

Will, thankfully, clarified: ‘It’s gonna be very different every week. Now, there was something of people [saying] ‘It’s gonna be a totally different house every week!”

‘That’s not gonna happen. It’s gonna be a house of different things every week, and I have been told what each week is.’

There’s a much more likely answer to the riddle than ITV breaking the bank to build eight new houses, which I think I may well have worked out during my few hours in the house.

Entering the bedroom, it’s a familiar scene: the mix of single and double beds, a huge make-up and get-ready station, this time with electric blue walls and punchy bright orange bedding. However, there has been a slight rearrangement.

One double bed stands out among the crowd, lit up with pink neon lights and its own circular mirror which surely has to resemble an eye (there are lots of eyes around the house, including a pupil on the Diary Room chair). It’s clearly reserved for a very special person or persons…

This would line up with a report in The Sun last month, which claimed producers have roped in familiar faces from across all series of Big Brother since it began in 2000 on Channel 4 to return to the house, surprising the housemates with a new blast from the past each week.

An insider said: ‘ITV are always thinking up new ways to inject even more fun into Big Brother.

‘When Sharon Osbourne came into CBB as a lodger a couple of years ago, it worked really well.

‘The plan is to find big stars from all of the CBB’s series to come in and surprise the housemates.

‘Finer details are still being thrashed out, with the idea that some would come in as guest residents and some for specific tasks.

‘ITV are working hard on lining up their dream celebs to come on board, and they think it could work a treat. No celeb is off the table, their dream line-up would include people like Gemma Collins, Kerry Katona and JoJo Siwa, and they’re sure they can secure some amazing talent.’

After my find in the Big Brother bedroom, I’m almost certain we’re going to be reunited with some truly iconic Big Brother legends over the next two months.

The rest of the house feels much more reminiscent of Channel 5’s Big Brother, the colours more muted, each room resembling an actual home in contrast to the garish fluorescent colours of every ITV series.

The mezzanine has still gone; ITV got rid of it for the last Celebrity Big Brother to make it harder for housemates to sneak off away from the others.

There’s a Diary Room first; this year’s chair is shaped like an eye again, but this time there is an actual pupil at its centre, which again is a running theme throughout the entire house, which I imagine will become clearer come Sunday when we finally meet our brand new housemates and, maybe, a legendary one too.

Big Brother returns Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
