Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace)is left desperate for answers in EastEnders next week as new evidence surrounding Zoe’s (Michelle Ryan) death suggests there could be more to the tragedy than anyone first realised.
The Slaters are thrown into unimaginable grief following Zoe’s death, with Kat struggling to process the fact that she has lost her daughter.
After finding Zoe’s lifeless body, a stunned Kat initially keeps the devastating discovery to herself as she attempts to come to terms with what has happened.
It isn’t long before Alfie learns the truth, however, leaving the rest of the family reeling as news of Zoe’s death begins to spread.
The tragedy comes at an already difficult time for the Slaters.
Jean, Mo and Lily have been preparing to leave No.31 after Suki evicted them over unpaid rent, with Mo doing her best to keep Lily’s spirits up ahead of another major change.
They head to The Vic ready to begin their next chapter living with the Moons, but any hope of a fresh start is immediately overshadowed when they discover what has happened to Zoe.
As the family struggles to comprehend her sudden death, Kat retreats from those closest to her and locks herself away.
Unable to cope with the grief surrounding her at home, she later heads to the container junction, where she crosses paths with Oscar.
He offers Kat some much-needed comfort as he talks about his mum’s own experience of grief following Abi’s death.
But when Kat eventually returns to The Vic, she is upset to discover that her family have gathered in Zoe’s bedroom to hold a vigil for her.
Rather than finding comfort in having everyone together, an overwhelmed Kat orders them all to leave.
Meanwhile, news of Zoe’s death begins spreading across Walford, leaving residents shocked.
However, there is one person who appears particularly affected, the last individual known to have seen Zoe alive.
Could their reaction be significant?
Elsewhere, Gemma continues trying to find her place within the community and decides to help the grieving Slaters by cooking for them.
Her good intentions don’t quite go according to plan, though, adding further complications at an already incredibly difficult time for the family.
As the week continues, Kat remains consumed by her grief and continues shutting out those who want to support her.
Alfie is particularly hurt by her behaviour, finding himself unable to reach the woman he loves when she needs him most.
He later heads to the allotments, where Harvey and Billy offer him some support as he deals with the fallout from Zoe’s death.
Things then take another dramatic turn when the police arrive with the results of Zoe’s postmortem.
Whatever Kat is told leaves her stunned, and suddenly desperate to get answers about exactly what happened to her daughter.
Sharon attempts to get through to Kat and offers some words of advice before suggesting they turn to Jack for help.
Determined to support her friend, Sharon believes Jack may be able to do them a favour and help uncover the truth.
But their search for answers leads to an unexpected development.
New evidence comes to light, and what it reveals leaves Sharon shocked.
With questions now hanging over Zoe’s final hours and the identity of the person who last saw her alive seemingly set to become important, could the Slaters be about to discover that her death isn’t as straightforward as it first appeared?
And just what has the new evidence uncovered?
