Lady Gaga has become one of the most famous women on the planet by rarely doing anything quietly – until recently.

The Bad Romance hitmaker, 40, has barely been seen publicly since wrapping her Mayhem Ball world tour in April, with a handful of grainy Polaroids shared on Instagram in late August marking her first appearance in months.

Her sudden retreat from the spotlight has inevitably got people wondering where she has gone, and according to reports, even some of those within her wider circle aren’t entirely sure.

The answer may be considerably more romantic than anything Little Monsters need to worry about.

Gaga is reportedly enjoying a much quieter existence in Marin County, California, where she is said to be living with her fiancé Michael Polansky in a new $10million (£7.4m) mansion.

And one source has claimed her prolonged absence has prompted speculation among friends that the notoriously private couple may have secretly tied the knot.

‘No one has seen her or heard from her in over a month,’ an insider told the Daily Mail.

They claimed people in Gaga’s circle believe she and Polansky, 42, could have eloped and may now be enjoying a honeymoon while planning to start a family. There has been no confirmation from Gaga or Polansky that they have married.

It wouldn’t be entirely out of character, however.

Gaga has previously floated the idea of skipping an enormous celebrity wedding altogether, once joking that she could see herself heading to a courthouse with Polansky before ordering Chinese food.

In March, the pop superstar called into Bruno Mars’ iHeart Radio livestream ‘Romantic Radio’ and dropped a major hint.

‘Hi, Bruno. Me and my fiancé have been traveling all year, but we’re getting married soon,’ she said in the pre-recorded voice message.

The singer has been similarly candid about wanting children, previously saying becoming a mother was what she wanted ‘most’ and expressing her excitement at the prospect of Polansky becoming a father.

She told Elle in 2025 that she envisions her near future being centered around ‘me and Michael and our kids.’

For now, though, the secret wedding, and whatever comes after that major step, remains pure speculation.

What appears clearer is that Gaga has swapped some of the chaos of Hollywood for a significantly more low-key life in Northern California.

Locals reportedly claim the superstar has become something of a regular around Marin County, with sightings ranging from restaurants and bars to a gym and Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop shop.

One resident recalled sitting beside Gaga at a Mill Valley bar in June, where she drank French red wine and apparently managed the almost impossible feat of being Lady Gaga in public without being mobbed.

‘No one really recognised her, no one asked for an autograph,’ the local claimed, explaining that celebrity gawking isn’t exactly the done thing in the wealthy area.

Another resident claimed Gaga told them she had relocated to Ross from Southern California and was delighted with her new surroundings.

Polansky already has links to the area, having reportedly purchased property there in 2019, while his work with the Parker Foundation is based nearby in San Francisco.

And if Gaga really did want to disappear for a while, she appears to have chosen her location well.

Her new home is reportedly surrounded by mature trees and rolling lawns, with gates, security cameras and enough privacy to make an impromptu paparazzi appearance rather unlikely.

Gaga and Michael first met in 2019 at tech entrepreneur Sean Parker’s birthday party in Los Angeles, before romance rumours began later that year.

After going Instagram official in 2020, a source told Entertainment Tonight: ‘She wasn’t expecting to get so involved so quickly after her last relationship, but she started telling her friends she was completely in love with him.

‘Anyone that has spent any time with them can see the connection. They are completely smitten. Her friends haven’t seen her this happy in years. It didn’t take long for her friends to adore him too.’

Four years later Polansky proposed while the pair were rock climbing.

Gaga later revealed that her fiancé actually asked permission to propose before doing it, with the ring waiting in his backpack. ‘I’m a modern lady,’ she joked of the unconventional moment. ‘I like what he did.’

They subsequently made their red carpet debut as an engaged couple at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where Gaga’s enormous diamond rather gave the game away.

Two years later, there have been no wedding photographs, no surprise Vogue spread and no confirmation that Mother Monster has quietly become Mrs Polansky.

But after finishing a blockbuster world tour, moving somewhere she can apparently drink a glass of wine without causing a small riot and repeatedly speaking about wanting marriage and children, there is also a considerably less mysterious explanation for Gaga’s ‘disappearance’.
